Parachute Tower: a DIY wooden music box and fairground model

A classic fairground ride to build by hand

Parachute Tower is a ROKR EA01 3D wooden puzzle and DIY music box kit that turns a familiar amusement-park ride into a tabletop model. Its tall cream-and-wood tower carries red-and-white parachutes above a circular fenced platform. Curved roof supports, patterned panels and a small flag give it the feel of an old-fashioned fairground, with an open structure that lets you see the hanging gondolas from several sides.

Details from the canopy to the Carnival gate

The little ride has a clear silhouette: a slender decorated column, a broad star-shaped canopy and a low rounded base. Each parachute has a striped dome and a small red basket hanging below it. At ground level, steps lead through the Carnival entrance to the platform. Fine railings and draped window surrounds make the base worth looking at as closely as the tower above. The cream finish keeps those red canopies in view.

Movement, light and a familiar melody

After assembly, the motor-driven mechanism raises and lowers the parachutes around the tower. A touch control operates the ride, lights and music; the music can also be muted while the ride continues. The tune is Falling Flower, named on the original kit packaging. Warm light shows through the tower panels and the windows around the base, bringing another look to the finished model.

A model-making project to spend time with

The kit has 184 pieces and is recommended for ages 14 and above. Set aside time to assemble the wooden structure and fit the hanging parachutes carefully, following the instructions as the model takes shape. The combination of a decorative exterior and a working lift gives mechanical model enthusiasts something to build and observe. Spread the making across your weekend or several sessions; your own pace is more useful than treating an assembly estimate as a deadline.

An amusement-park display for a desk or shelf

The assembled Parachute Tower measures 14 × 14 × 30 cm, giving it a tall presence on a relatively small base. Choose a level spot with room around the suspended baskets so you can enjoy the model from more than one angle. It makes a distinctive addition to a collection of wooden mechanical puzzles, music box models or miniature fairground rides. The pink scenery, benches and other surrounding objects in the styled photographs are display props, rather than additional rides supplied with this kit.
