The Darkness Herbarium
The Darkness Herbarium: a gothic cabinet of curiosities to build
A fantasy book nook behind green sliding doors
The Darkness Herbarium is a DIY wooden book nook kit that builds into a miniature cabinet of curiosities. Deep green walls, gold-coloured trim and pointed gothic arches frame a room filled with unusual exhibits. The two front panels slide to the sides, revealing the collection within. Once assembled, the compact scene can sit among your books or stand on a desk, bringing a small, richly detailed fantasy interior into an everyday space.
A collection to discover in miniature
The interior rewards a closer look. An illustrated portal curls into a turquoise spiral on one wall. A framed specimen rests on a slender display stand, while a small wooden cabinet holds miniature books above a skull illustration. Nearby, a broom-shaped ornament sits beside a green flame design enclosed in an ornate frame. Patterned walls, layered arches and little picture frames bring these separate details together. These are decorative miniature pieces and printed designs to assemble into the scene.
Make the room, one small assembly at a time
This miniature model is a hands-on project: you put the structural pieces and small displays together yourself. The original assembly photographs show the little cabinet and specimen stand taking shape over an illustrated instruction booklet. Give yourself room to lay out the parts, read the next step and enjoy seeing a flat piece become part of a three-dimensional room. An evening set aside is an invitation to get started; take breaks and continue at the pace that suits you.
A warm light for a dark green interior
Touch-controlled LED lighting illuminates the room through the small chandelier near the top. The warm light picks out the gold-coloured arches and displays against the darker walls. Slide the front panels apart for an open view, or bring them together to frame the interior through their decorative cutouts. The light and the manually operated doors add another way to enjoy the completed book nook after the making is done.
A small display for readers and miniature collectors
The finished cabinet is approximately 17 cm high, 11.5 cm wide and 10 cm deep, measured with the front panels closed. Its narrow shape works as a bookshelf insert or a freestanding miniature display. For someone drawn to gothic decor, fantasy reading or detailed wooden craft kits, it offers both a project to spend time with and a finished piece to keep. The kit requires two AAA batteries for its lighting; batteries are not included.
